Tomorrow When I Awake as God... and other tales of transfiguration
Many years playing in many bands in many cities left me with a tonne of tunes, a truckload of tracks, a monstrous mountain of music.
I tried putting them into a ‘Best Of’ – a ‘Greatest un-Hits’. But there were too many songs in too many styles and I couldn’t make my mind up. So I started grouping them by topic and theme.
Drinking, War, Religion, Sex (or more usually a failure/ lack of it) and Superheroes all featured highly. As did songs about transforming from or into something new. Finally I realised a looooong series of poems about transformation was exactly the thing to put together into a hit album.
I was persuaded the 40 track concept album about transmogrification could be streamlined into a tighter, pert buttocked 12-track (with a free ep tagged onto the end). And that is what happened. Ch-ch-ch-changes. A mutating, musical panacea, and a mighty fine Frizbee that took four years of recording, re-recording, adding new sax, violin, trumpet, clarinet, mandolin and musical saw parts to build layers of salsajazzbalcancanbossapunkwoodblock'n'roll into the mix. Tomorrow When I Awake as God...is available for the tiny price of £5.99 with all profits going to the Kavunyalalo School Project, ensuring young people can gain a secondary school education in Kenya.
